David Collett appointed to AIBC NSW Management Committee

Palamedia Managing Director David Collet was proud to be appointed Elected Member on the Management Committee of Australia India Business Council NSW Chapte at the AIBC's AGM in June.

The responsibility of a member of the AIBC management committee is to establish and set out policy for the AIBC in New South Wales, and to assits in the growth of the organisation by engaging with business, government and members.

Business leaders gathered at the Sir Stamford Hotel in Sydney last week to launch the 2008 edition of American Australian Business.

Guest speakers included David J. Murphy, Senior Commercial Officer, from the US Commercial Service in Australia, and Charmaine Terry from the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia.

MC duties were ably handled by Mike Schoettler, the CEO of Sales Sense.

Insto's new editor

Palamedia managing director David Collett announced this week that Bernard Kellerman has joined the company as editor of Insto, starting immediately.

Mr Kellerman is an experienced finance and business journalist who was most recently acting editor of CFO magazine. He will have editorial responsibility for Insto’s core products: the Bond Diary, the Australian Financial Markets Newsletter and Insto’s quarterly magazine.

“We’re excited to have Bernard working here, and look forward to building on Insto’s position as Australia’s leading finance and capital markets publication,” Mr Collett said.
“His long experience with major business publishers Thomson Reuters and Fairfax, along with strong industry contacts are crucial to Palamedia’s growth plans.”

Mr Kellerman is also a qualified accountant and a member of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.

Mr Collett thanked outgoing editor, Phil Ayling for his efforts which provide the business with a foundation for continued growth.

American Australian Business to launch in Sydney

Business leaders, chamber of commerce members and government officials will meet at the launch of American Australian Business 2008 next week in Sydney.

The cocktail reception, to be held at the Sir Stamford Hotel on Wednesday July 2, will feature keynote speaker David J. Murphy, Senior Commercial Officer, US Commercial Service in Australia.

American Australian Business is the official publication of the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia (AmCham). The 2008 edition of the magazine is available to view online now.

Palamedia will hold the Beijing launch of China Australia Business as part of the Business Club Australia programme.

Managed by Austrade, Business Club Australia is the Australian Government’s international business program at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Business Club Australia (BCA) is a business networking program designed to bring together Australian, Chinese and international business executives around the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games to facilitate oneon- one business matching.

Located at the Beijing Hilton Hotel for the duration of the games, BCA’s business networking program will be a major hub for Australian businesspeople during the Olympics and will feature a wide range of events and networking opportunities organised by Austrade and participating Australian companies.

Palamedia is delighted to announce its participation as a silver corporate member for the Business Club Australia program.

Nation's Innovators attend Australian Innovation Launch

The national launch of the Australian Innovation Festival was held in Sydney on Wednesday. The event was also the launch of the official publication of the festival, Australian Innovation. Keynote speaker was Senator Kim Carr, minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research.

Verity Firth, MP, NSW Minister for Climate Change and the Environment, Minister for Women, Minister for Science and Medical Research, Minister Assisting the Minister for Health (Cancer), and Peter Westfield, Chair of the Australian Innovation Festiva, also spoke at the launch. Master of Ceremony duties were handled with aplomb by James O'Laughlin, host of ABC TV's The New Inventors.

New Agreement with Mining Media

In an exciting step, Palamedia Ltd and Colorado-based Mining Media Inc. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 3 2008. Palamedia will now act as the exclusive Australian media agent for a one-off, special supplement entitled ‘Best of Australian Coal Mining 2008’. ‘Best of Australian Coal Mining’ will be produced in English and Chinese versions and will be distributed alongside specific issues of Coal Age to relevant markets in North America and China. The supplement will play a leading role in showcasing Australia’s resources industries, as coal is recognised as Australia’s largest commodity export and a vital national resource.

Industry Leaders Gather at Insto Distinction Awards

This week Insto held its 9th annual Distinction awards, recognising excellence in Australia’s Capital Markets. Over 300 of the country’s most prominent financiers and dealmakers attended the function at Doltone House in Sydney.

The coveted banker of the year award was received by John Stewart of National Australia Bank. It was a fine night for UBS who claimed the investment bank of the year award participating in all 2007’s benchmark capital markets transactions. Insto’s CFO of the year award went to Chris Skilton of Suncorp-Metway in a year in which he oversaw one of Australia’s largest mergers.

In the debt related categories, CBA claimed bond house of the year, Macquarie retained its ABS house of the year title and UBS wrestled back the hybrid house of the year award.

On Wednesday December 12 Palamedia held a launch for its new lifestyle publication, "Live the Dream - Sea and Tree Change Australia". The launch was held at the Sir Stamford Hotel in Sydney.

The event was combined with the official launch of the Snowy Valleys Way tourning route - a new alternative touring route between New South Wales and Victoria.

On December 6, Palamedia held a launch event for Australia India Business 2008 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney.

Speakers at the event included Her Excellency Sujatha Singh, the Indian High Commissioner to Australia, Sujan R Chinoy , Consul General of India, Brian Hayes, Chairman of the Australia India Business Council, Ian Murray, Executive Director of the Autralian Institute of Exort, and Mohan Monteiro, president of the AIBC NSW Chapter.

Guests were also entertained by Bollywood dancers.

Palamedia's forthcoming publication, Australian Innovation, will be published in full online featuring a new, flash based page turning technology.

The new publishing format will replicate the familiar experience of browsing a print magazine, with the additional benefits of searchability and thumbnail previews of each page.

Advertisers will have the opportunity to maximise the impact of their presence by incorporating streaming video into their pages.

Insto’s team wins ASX/Reuters regattta

On Friday, 2 November Insto’s team pulled off a surprising victory in the annual ASX/Reuters Regatta. Against all the odds, the team of inexperienced sailors cruised to victory in the Division 2 category. Although the weather earlier in the day was dismal Insto’s team of Jonathan, Anya , Aneta, Danny and Ian boarded the yacht “Hi-Jinx” and with the support of the captain, sailed home to Middle Harbour Yacht club to win the title.

The Charity regatta is held every year and is supported by the Australian Financial Markets Industry. This year total of 50 boats entered, raising a total of A$100,000 for 29 childrens and medical research charities.

Insto, a division of Palamedia supported the event through promotion of the event and entry of the yacht.
